Remembering J.D. Salinger

Is it wrong that I was happy when J.D. Salinger died? I mean, sure, I felt bad for his family, or whatever, but dammit – I need some new reading material! J.D. Salinger has been my favorite author for around ten years, and I have, in actuality, read the Catcher in the Rye eleven times. Why? Well, you got me there.

To step backward a bit, I had been anticipating Salinger’s death for a number of years, under the impression that when he died, the countless manuscripts and notebooks he had written and stored in his remote Cornish, New Hampshire home would be released for my reading pleasure. So far: nothing. Is it too much to ask for some new material? Even one new short story would tide me over for a couple of years. It’s been just over a year now and nothing. And before you even bring it up, no, I don’t care about respecting his wishes for privacy. Now, if you’ll excuse me, it’s about time I re-start Catcher.
